Q:When are the tickets available for purchase?
A:Tickets are available for purchase from 10 am on 26 Feb 2016 at URBTIX. Customers may purchase their tickets via UBRTIX at www.urbtix.hk, the URBTIX Outlets, its mobile ticketing app, or its credit card telephone booking service. Please refer to "URBTIX Outlets Location" and "Booking Folder" section for details.

Q:How to obtain information about the festival programmes?
A:From around 3pm on February 24, you may either visit www.hkiff.org.hk to get access to the entire public programme of the 40th HKIFF or get a booking folder from URBTIX Outlets, UA Cinemas (Cine Moko, Cityplaza), The Grand Cinema, The Metroplex and Harbour City (Limited Stocks).

About Buying Ticket / Festival Passes

Q:How can I purchase tickets?
A:Tickets are open for sale from 10 am, 26 February 2016 onwards at URBTIX.

Internet Booking www.urbtix.hk
You may visit the URBTIX webpage at www.urbtix.hk to purchase tickets. This service is available to all events from the first counter sale date until 1 hour before performance. For a performance about to start in one hour, tickets may only be bought at the box office of the venue concerned.* A service fee of HK $8 is charged per ticket with no limit set per transaction and is non-refundable. The service fee is subjected to adjustment by Cityline (HK) Limited.

Counter Booking: URBTIX Outlets
You may buy tickets over the counter at any of the around 40 URBTIX Outlets located throughout Hong Kong. For a performance about to start in one hour, tickets may only be bought at the box office of the venue concerned.

Mobile App Booking: My URBTIX
Customers can download appropriate version of the mobile ticketing app My URBTIX at Google Play or Apple App Store to buy tickets by mobile devices such as smartphones. This service is available to all events from the first counter sale date until 1 hour before performance. For a performance about to start in one hour, tickets may only be bought at the box office of the venue concerned.* A service fee of HK $8 is charged per ticket with no limit set per transaction and is non-refundable. The service fee is subjected to adjustment by Cityline (HK) Limited.

This service is available to all events from the first counter sale date until 1 hour before performance. For a performance about to start in one hour, tickets may only be bought at the box office of the venue concerned.* A service charge of HK $8 is involved in the transaction per ticket (non-refundable, subject to adjustment by Cityline (HK) Limited).

*For screenings at UA Cinemas, The Grand Cinema, The Metroplex and Grand Winsor Cinema, tickets are available at URBTIX Outlets until 5:00pm one day before respective screenings, after which tickets will be available only at the box office of respective screening venues on the day of screening, subject to availability. Please note that there is no URBTIX counter sale at the Hong Kong Science Museum. The door ticket counter at Science Museum opens 30 minutes before the screening. Limited tickets to non sold-out screenings will be available at the door, subject to availability (Cash only).

Q:Why are tickets open for sale on the first day without any prior internet booking this year?
A:Opinions collected from previous festival goers reflect how they find the service fee charged per ticket too high and would like to have other ticketing channels without service fee. This year, ticket sales is directly run by URBTIX. Patron can enjoy the alternatives (outlets, website, mobile app or telephone booking) of buying tickets at URBTIX once the ticket sales opens, and conveniently schedule their time for the screenings they like.
Q:How can I purchase VIP Pass and Super Value Pass?
A:A limited number of VIP Pass (HK$5,000) vouchers and Super Value Pass (HK$3,000) vouchers are available at URBTIX or by fax (2970 3011) for purchase. Please collect your voucher at the URBTIX Outlets or ticket dispensing machines before you redeem the pass at the HKIFF office on or before the specified date on the voucher. The Passes are sold to persons aged 18 or above. Passes are non-transferable and exclusively for one patron.

Q:I am currently residing outside Hong Kong but I plan to travel to Hong Kong to attend the Festival. How do I reserve my tickets before I arrive?
A:You may purchase tickets at www.urbtix.hk or via its mobile app My URBTIX starting from 26th February, 2016.
Q:Can I buy tickets for children?
A:One person per ticket regardless of age. Children under age of 6 will not be admitted to any screenings.
Q:Any ticket discounts for this year? (Except for purchasing Festival Passes)

Q:Do I need to provide my proof of identity upon admission if I buy concessionary tickets?
A:Yes, please provide acceptable proof of identity upon admission.
Q:Can I enjoy the student discount if I am a student of an overseas institution?
A:No. Only local Hong Kong full-time students holding acceptable proof are eligible to purchase student concessionary tickets. Concessionary ticket holders will only be admitted with acceptable proof of identity. You may be required to pay an extra fee or your admission will be refused if you fail to present the acceptable proof of identity.
Q:What is the difference between the VIP Pass and the Super Value Pass?

VIP Pass
  • Admit to all screenings during Festival period, 21 March – 4 April 2016. Admission by tickets only: Opening film(s) on 21 March 2016;
  • Receive 2 tickets for each Opening Film(s) screenings on 21 March 2016;
  • Receive priority admittance for all screenings with one accompanying ticket holder or pass holder(except sold-out screenings);
  • Get one copy of each "The 40th HKIFF Main Catalogue", "In the Mood for Films – 25th Anniversary of Jet Tone Films" and "Cine Encounters, Jupiter's Kind";
  • Get 2 sets of selected 40th HKIFF Premiums;
  • Each VIP Pass holder will be entered automatically into the daily lucky draw with five chances a day during the Festival. (Trade Promotion Competition License No.: 46664-6)
Super Value Pass
  • Admit to all non sold-out screenings during Festival period, 21 March – 4 April 2016, except the Opening film(s) on 21 March 2016;

About Ticket collection and delivery

Q:How can I collect the tickets I have purchased?
A:You can choose to collect your pre-paid tickets by mail or courier delivery; or collect from Cityline Ticket Dispensing Machines / URBTIX Sales Counters from 27th February 2016. Tickets booked within 7 days of the performance can only be collected from Cityline Ticket Dispensing Machines / URBTIX Sales Counters. Please present the credit card you used for the booking for verification and collection of your pre-paid tickets. For bookings by China UnionPay Online payment, please use the automatically generated claim ID and your user-defined password to collect your pre-paid tickets from Cityline Ticket Dispensing Machines.

Q:How will you deliver the tickets to me?
A:URBTIX provides registered post and courier service. Surface mail is not available. You are required to pay extra service fee if you choose to receive your tickets via registered post or courier. Customers must bear the risk associated with mailing, and tickets that are lost or non-delivered due to wrong postal address will not be re-issued. For more information on mailing charges, please contact URBTIX.

Q:Whom can I reach for help if I still haven't received any tickets before the screenings?

Q: I live outside Hong Kong. How will you send the tickets to me? Can I designate a courier / mailing method?

Questions that may come across when buying tickets

Q:How many tickets can I order in each transaction?
A:Maximum of 4 tickets for each show and a maximum total of 40 tickets can be purchased in each transaction.
Q:What is "Verified By Visa"?
A:"Verified by Visa" is now available on URBTIX website. If you are using a Visa card for payment, your issuing institution may verify your identity through "Verified by Visa". You cannot complete the transaction if "Verified by Visa" fails to authenticate your identity. To avoid this, please visit Visa Website and contact your Visa card issuing institution to learn more about this new security feature.
Q:What is "MasterCard SecureCode Service"?
A:If you are using a MasterCard for payment, your issuing institution may verify your identity through " MasterCard SecureCode Service". You cannot complete the transaction if " MasterCard SecureCode Service " fails to authenticate your identity. To avoid this, please visit MasterCard Website and contact your MasterCard issuing institution to learn more about this new security feature.
Q:Can I choose seats when buying Festival tickets?
A:All screenings offer free seating.
Q:What kinds of payment do you accept?
A:URBTIX Internet Booking accepts VISA, MasterCard, AMEX, Diners Club and China UnionPay Card (in Hong Kong currency only) for purchase on URBTIX website. Cash, VISA, MasterCard, AMEX and China UnionPay Card (in Hong Kong currency only) are accepted at URBTIX Outlets. Your credit card will be debited once the transaction is successful. All tickets sold are not refundable or exchangeable.
Q:Disabled seating and special needs bookings
A:Most of the venues have wheelchair access.
URBTIX: Ticket for wheelchair access is available for purchase via URBTIX. Contact details are required for screenings at venues under Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The venue staff will assist you to use the facilities.

Q:What are the refund procedures?
A:All the tickets sold are not refundable unless the film is newly classified as Category III, and refunds will be made to the ticket holders under 18 years of age who bought the tickets before the announcement. Please apply for a refund on or before 30th April, 2016. Application form can be downloaded here.

Q:Where to check if the respective screening is full?
A:Patrons may check with URBTIX Ticketing Enquiry Hotline (Tel: 3761 6661) or through the “Full House Screening” of the Festival website.
Q:How do I know if any English and / or Chinese subtitles are available?
A:General Policy: Unless otherwise stated, all films (except English-speaking films) are subtitled in English. For screenings with Chinese subtitle, it will be indicated on the “Programme Diary” page on the booking folder and along the programme synopsis on the festival website.
Q:How do I get the latest information of HKIFF?
A:Latest information may be obtained through this website.
Q:Where can I check if there is any change in screening time and the follow-up events?
A:Any change in programme and schedule can be found in Festival website “Programme Updates” section, or at the notice board of HKIFF’s screening venues and major URBTIX Outlets.
